Description:  This course is an introduction to Open Educational Resources (OER) and the use of public domain learning materials for teaching.  OER can be used as an alternative and/or supplement to publishers' textbooks.

Rediscover the delights of teaching and learning.  This course experience is designed to be learner-centered and dynamic.  The flow and direction of the course depends on the learning needs of the participants.

Participants in this course will be encouraged to nurture their own Personal Learning Network about the use of open educational resources (OER) or open content.  Collectively, participants will build the knowledge and skills necessary to find, adapt, repurpose, create, and share accessible OER.

What is a Personal Learning Network?

Remember a time when a major change occurred in your life such as first time homeownership, adoption of a new pet, or relocation to another city?

Suddenly, you were highly motivated to learn as much as possible about that change.  You quickly sought out knowledge and information from a variety of experts and your friends.  Then, you organized what you discovered and verified its accuracy with others.  In short, you created a Personal Learning Network that gave you immediate access to diverse sources about your interest area.

Your Personal Learning Network enabled you to engage with a learning community of individuals with a similar learning need.  Also, you probably reflected on how what you learned matched with your personal experiences.  Eventually, you became a source of expertise in this interest area for others.
